The 379th week of the Freedom for Öcalan Vigil in front of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg was taken over by three women from the European Kurdish Women's Movement (TJK-E) from Switzerland.
Saadet Kuran, Müzeyyen Oral and Xezal Mamedova replaced a group of activists from Salzgitter.
In a statement the women emphasized the importance of protecting the Freedom Vigil action and called on all Kurds in Europe to join the Vigil.
The statement also underlined that the seizure by the AKP of the HDP-run municipalities cannot be accepted. The women said the will of the people was violated and demand the democratically elected mayors to be reinstated.
Noting that women play a leading role in the fight against Turkish state fascism as well as defending the freedom of Öcalan, women activists said: "Women need stronger participation in all areas. Mothers are those who suffer the most. The leadership situation also affects women the most."
Since 25 June 2012 Kurdish activists have been making sure that every week there is a group taking over the Freedom for Öcalan Vigil and at least once a month the Vigil is taken over by TJK-E women.
