Theologian-writer Ihsan Eliaçık announced on social media that he was sentenced to 1 year and 2 months for insulting Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Eliaçık said that he was accused of "calling the President of the Republic a dog" on the grounds of the comment made by someone with a dog picture in his profile under his Twitter account.

In his post, Eliaçık said, "I was sentenced to 1 year and 2 months in prison for insulting the President. Someone with a dog picture on his profile commented on a tweet I wrote, and I was sentenced, accused of "calling the President a dog."
