Workers at Kadıköy Municipality go on strike

After negotiation for a Collective Bargaining Agreements (TIS) between Kadıköy Municipality and Genel-Iş Union, ended, 2,300 workers went on strike.

Negotiation for a Collective Bargaining Agreements (TIS) between Kadıköy Municipality and Genel-İş Union (Public Services Employees Union of Turkey) Anatolian Side Branch No.1 (which is part of DISK, Confederation of Revolutioanry Trade Unions) ended.

As soon as the announcement of the end of negotiations arrived, workers went on strike.

Declaring their decision at all three municipalities, the workers of Kadıköy have first gone on strike as of midnight. The workers of Ataşehir and Kartal Municipalities will also follow suit in the upcoming days.

Genel-Iş Anatolian Side Branch No. 1 chair, Ahmet Arıkan, emphasized in his speech that the struggle will continue. “We will stay on the streets and we will also stay at the negotiations table.”

Arıkan added: “Our struggle will continue until we get our rights.” After the speech, at midnight, the workers in front of the municipality hung banners on all the doors of the municipality, "There is a strike in this workplace."
