The Italian Kurdistan Frendship Committees Network and the Italian Kurdistan Information Bureau, has published the appeal “The Time has come, Freedom for Öcalan” in the monthly Italian version of Le Monde Diplomatique.
The appeal underlines the more and more dangerous situation in Middle East and Turkey and added that it is about to get out of control.
“The international community must act immediately, stop violence and bloodshed. Nobody has suffered more from this violence than the Kurdish people,” said the appeal.
The appeal reminded that “Kurds fought and defeated ISIS and despite the war and attacks by Turkey they are trying to build a new society in Northern Eastern Syria.”
It also reminded the peace process talks which took place in 2013-2015 between the Turkish government and the imprisoned Kurdish political leader Abdullah Öcalan and added that “at that time, President Erdoğan suddenly abandoned the negotiation table throwing the country in a new war environment. It is time to stop all this. It is time for a new peace process.”
The appeal continued: “It is time to give Abdullah Öcalan, who has been confronted with an inhumane situation for 20 years, the opportunity to play his role to end his isolation and restore peace!
The campaign for freedom for Öcalan calls on all politicians, civil society and the wider international community to act before it is too late.
Join the campaign to open doors to peace and support our call.
- Isolation must end immediately!
- Arrested Kurdish political leader Abdullah Öcalan must be freed!
- The political persecution of dissidents from all walks of life must end and all political prisoners must be released!
- Turkey must end its military operations in northern Iraq and eastern Syria!
- A new peace process should be started with the fully supported participation of international powers!"
