Political prisoner, Murat Aktaþ, set himself ablaze in Midyat M Type Prison to protest against the capture of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan. Ocalan was abducted in Kenya in 1999, on February 15 as a result of a conspiracy involving many international parties.

Prisoner Aktaþ was immediately taken to Midyat State Hospital by prison officers. His condition is not life threatening, said doctors.

The prisoners in Midyat Prison went on hunger strike as a form of protest in the 12th anniversary of Öcalan’s capture.

Yesterday the funeral of seventeen years old Mustafa Malçok has taken place. The young boy had also set himself ablaze in Diyarbakýr as a protest extreme gesture. He was bid farewell by thousands in Diyarbakýr.

A high school student, Mustafa Malkoç, set himself ablaze late last Monday night in Diyarbakýr. His burned body was found near the Tigris River in Diyarbakýr. In a note he left, he had stated his identity and the reasons for his extreme act.

His final sentence read: “Burning bodies will enlighten the darkness of February 15." Young Mustafa Malkoç had been arrested and spent one and a half months in prison accused of participating at a demonstration and throwing stones.
