Determined, loud and colorful, hundreds of people took to the streets on Saturday to join the demo organized by the Kurdish youth movement in Stuttgart for the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan.
Hundreds of people took to the streets in Stuttgart on Saturday demanding freedom of Abdullah Öcalan under the slogan “Together for an uprising”. The Kurdish youth movements TCŞ and TEKO-JIN called for the colorful and creative demonstration nationwide.
The demonstrators gathered on Lautenschlagerstrasse. At the beginning, a minute's silence was held for the fallen of the liberation struggle and the resistance song Çerxa Şoreşê (The Wheel of Revolution) was played. Then a PKK flag attached to balloons rose into the air, the balloons were decorated with the face of Öcalan.
The march was led by a banner that read “End isolation, fascism and occupation - Bi Hev Re Serhildan!”. The demonstrators moved to Marienplatz, where the final rally took place. The speakers included Tahir Köçer, co-chair of the Kurdish umbrella organization KON-MED.
The Revolutionary Youth Movement (TCŞ) and the Movement of Fighting Young Women (TEKO-JIN) call for a demonstration said: “We live in a time in which capitalist modernity has shaken societies, and especially young people and women, are rising up to revolt, clearly stating that they don't want to live another second in this inhuman system. From the United States to Indonesia and from Latin America to Kurdistan, youth have taken the streets against fascism. Our offensive, ‘Bi hev re Serhildan - Together for the uprising’ therefore corresponds exactly to the current phase. Racist police violence, femicide, the destruction of our nature, repression against democratic freedom and warmongering are all part of the Third World War. We know that this war is just another step by the imperialist forces, first of all NATO, which is using the Turkish fascist state and its jihadist forces against the societies and women in the Middle East. The basis of this war is the patriarchal and capitalist mentality and this attack is mainly aimed at the philosophy of Rêber Öcalan and the free will of the Kurdish people as well as democratic socialist and feminist values around the world.”
The statement continued: “We firmly believe that the fight for our liberation is the fight for freedom of Abdullah Öcalan. As young people we are not afraid of the revolution, but rather have great visions for the future. Our resistance has brought the Kurdish identity, the role of women in society and a free life to bloom again. We have never been so close to freedom as we are today. We will therefore continue to intensify our actions as a revolutionary youth movement in Europe and work non stop to achieve the freedom of Rêber Öcalan, the liberation of Kurdistan and the construction of democratic modernity."
