Dozens were killed in an attack by the terrorist organisation Islamic State (ISIS) in central Syria.

At least 61 civilians were killed in an attack by the terrorist organisation "Islamic State" (ISIS) in Syria. The attack on Friday took place in the central Syrian city of Al-Sukhna, east of Homs, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), which also reported the death of seven members of the regime forces at a checkpoint of the regime forces.

According to SOHR, ISIS members on motorcycles carried out the attack, the deadliest attack carried out by the organization in 2023, using medium and light weapons. The attack targeted truffle pickers and the regime forces stationed at a checkpoint in Al-Dubayat in Al-Sukhnah countryside in the Homs desert.

Al-Suchna is located in the central province of Homs and became a strategically important bastion of ISIS in 2015. Two years later, the jihadist militia was driven out of there by Syrian government forces.
