Iraqi media reports that the al-Bukamal border crossing between Iraq and Syria will be opened on Monday.
According to the statement, Muhammad Bersim, Chairman of the Iraqi Committee for Customs and Border Crossing, said that the opening of the border in al-Bukamal has been approved by Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi and can be used both for travelers and for commercial traffic.
The region in East Syrian Deir ez-Zor territory, where the border crossing is located, is controlled by the Syrian regime and Iran. Protests have taken place in the area in recent days. The population demands that the Syrian and Iranian forces leave the area so that they can return to their villages.
The Iraqi government has twice refused to open the al-Bukamal border crossing before.
