The Command of Shengal Resistance Units (Yekîneyên Berxwedana Şengal, YBŞ) has announced the death of Arab resistance fighter Mahir Teyawi in the fight against Turkish occupation in Afrin. Mahir Teyawi was born in 1990 in Baac. His code name was Ahmed Zahir.
The statement said, "Our friend Mahir volunteered to participate in the resistance of Afrin against the Turkish occupation state and its militias and has fallen in the fight against them."
The YBŞ continued: "Our companion Mahir is of Arab origin and has joined the YBŞ because he saw in it the only way out for the peoples of the Middle East and a foundation to gain freedom. In the time he spent in combat, he never lacked sacrifice and devotion, and became a strong militant. He was popular among his comrades and has become an example of camaraderie through his sincere personality and practice of life. He was involved in all offensives in the most active way and took his place in the resistance as a commander in the front lines.
Mahir could not remain silent about the massacres of the ISIS in the Shengal and led a determined fight against the gangs in the YBŞ ranks. The barbarian militias of the Turkish state then tried to massacre the people of Afrin. In the face of the occupation and the destruction of Afrin, our friend Mahir joined the resistance there on his own initiative. He has given a great fight against the total assault of the barbarian gangs of ISIS and their supporters, the Turkish state, and actively participated in the most intense phases of Afrin resistance so far. Our comrade Mahir did not hesitate for a single moment, but struggled to the last drop of blood.
We remember all our fallen comrades in the person of Mahir and offer the families our sincere condolences. The death of our friend Mahir has strengthened our resistance. We give our word that we will keep high the banner of resistance left to us."
