Since the early hours of the morning, fierce fighting has been taking place around the village of Umm al-Keyf near the northern Syrian town of Til Temir between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and an invasion force consisting of Turkish soldiers and mercenaries.
Earlier today, the Turkish troops attacked the village, facing a return of fire by the SDF. According to the SDF, heavy fighting is currently taking place in the vicinity of the village.
SDF Media Centre reported that at least two Turkish-backed mercenaries were killed in the failed Turkish attack on Um al-Kaif village, north of Til Temir.
“Clashes continue in the surrounding farms. Since morning, our forces foiled three ground attacks by the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries on the village,” the SDF statement said.
Only yesterday, three civilians were killed by Turkish artillery fire in the town of Zirgan (Abu Rasen), also near Til Temir. The death toll rose to 4 today as one of those injured, Mihemed Xêr Elyan (58) from the village of El-Esediyê, passed away while receiving treatment at the Ferman Hospital in Qamishlo.
The region borders directly on the occupied areas around Serêkaniyê and serves the Turkish army and its mercenaries as a base for their attacks. With its attacks, the Turkish state aims to take control of the entire area north of the strategically important M4 highway.
