Clashes between Turkish supported gangs in Azaz

Clashes reported between Turkish supported gangs in North Syrian city of Azaz.

Members of two gang groups Sultan Murat and Firka Hamza clashed over control of a checkpoint in Behertin village near Exterin, a small town near Azaz, local sources reported. Several gang members were killed in yesterday’s clashes and the tensions are high in the region.

The clash took place around the checkpoint on Bahverte bridge. It's unclear which group took the control of the checkpoint.

Sultan Murat and Firka Hamza gangs clashed with each other several times in the past months over territory issues.

Sultan Murat is favored by Turkish state among the gangs in Shehba. The group operates under the supervision of Turkish intelligence officials.

The group was Turkey’s “hand” in Aleppo but after the fall of the city, most of the gang members were transferred to Jarablus and Azaz.
