Ehmed: A solution can only be reached through dialogue
It is the people of Idlib who should have the right to decide the future of Idlib, said Ilham Ehmed of the MSD.
It is the people of Idlib who should have the right to decide the future of Idlib, said Ilham Ehmed of the MSD.
Co-chair of the Syrian Democratic Council (MSD) Executive Council, llham Ehmed spoke about the developments in the region.
Stating that the issue of Idlib is very sensitive, Ehmed told ANHA that many of the world's states’ plans in Syria are being focused on what will happen in this city.
Ilham Ehmed pointed out that al-Nusra and the terrorist groups linked to it, are extremely violent. Russia and the Syrian regime, she added, had taken the decision to launch an operation in Idlib, but the international forces prevented it.
“The Syrian regime - Ehmed said - wants to re-dominate Idlib and all of Syria. If the Syrian regime moves with the old mentality, then the Syrian community will face greater disasters which will mean more blood spilled”.
Ilham Ehmed also drew attention to the presence of the Turkish army in Idlib and said: “The presence of these forces should end now. Against this, the integrity of the Syrian territory must be preserved. The mercenaries affiliated to the Turkish state must also leave and a democratic system in Syria must be established”.
Idlib is a small Syria
Ehmed warned that the mercenaries present in Syria represent a huge problem for women in particular. “In the past few years, - she said - we have witnessed the fact that these mercenaries have brought only death and violence to the peoples of Syria and especially for women. We are now witnessing this in Idlib, Afrin, Jarablus, al-Bab and Azaz. Idlib is a small Syria. - Ehmed added - Because hundreds of thousands of people from different parts of Syria have been resettled there. The people there are not happy with the regime. In this respect, the Idlib issue should be resolved in a clear way. No matter how this issue would be solved, through Syria’s own dynamics or among the international forces, the solution should be clear”.
Stressing that a people’s council in Idlib would be an important issue for its citizens, Ehmed said: “If we state that mercenaries there are a big danger, a council elected by the people may have an important function in order to counter the disaster these mercenaries are bringing about. In the end, it is the people of Idlib who should have the right to decide the future of Idlib”.
Talking about the occasional demonstrations organised in Idlib, Ilham Ehmed emphasized that these demos are actually promoted by the Turkish state's agents, not the people.
There will be a Russia-Syria operation in Idlib
Recalling the agreement between Russia and Turkey over Idlib in an attempt to prevent an operation and provide the mercenaries linked to Turkey a way out, Ehmed said: “Parties from time to time can make a variety of concessions to each other. They're going to do it to make it look like they're getting results. The deadline given to the Turkish state to remove the mercenaries has passed. However, mercenaries did not leave and the deadline was postponed. Yet mercenaries have not left the de-escalation zone. I believe that the Syrian regime will ultimately launch a military operation against Idlib, together with Russia”.
Dialogue is the only way towards a solution
Ilham Ehmed ended her remarks by underlining the threats Syria and Russia represent for Northern and Eastern Syria.
“These threats will endanger the possibility of a solution in Syria. Against this, we clearly state that dialogue should be developed in order to find a solution”.
