Ehrez was occupied by Turkish-supported militias two years ago and the population was expelled. Many found shelter in Ehrez. Now the people in the Shehba region take in protection seekers from Afrin.

The co-mayor of town, Hemze Çawîs, recalled that the Ehrez territory was freed by the Revolutionary forces in 2016: "When we had to flee, we went to Afrin and we got everything we needed. Now we have house about 40,000 people from Afrin."
