EP delegation arrives at Qamishlo

A delegation of the European Parliament chaired by the Austrian politician Andreas Schieder has arrived in Rojava. The delegation wants to examine the situation on the spot after the Turkish invasion.

A delegation of the European Parliament has arrived at Qamishlo for talks with representatives of the Autonomous Administration of North-East Syria. The delegation, chaired by Austrian MEP Andreas Schieder (Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats), was received on Sunday by the Foreign Affairs Commissioner of the self-government Abdulkarim Omar as well as the spokesman of the Foreign Relations Office Kemal Akif and the deputy co-chairs of the department, Abir Alya and Fanar al-Keet. The delegation from Europe, which also includes political scientist and social and cultural anthropologist Thomas Schmidinger, intends to investigate the situation on the ground after the Turkish invasion. At the moment, a discussion with representatives of the self-government is taking place, without the press.

MEP Andreas Schieder has long been calling for a "genuine" ceasefire, a diplomatic offensive, a demilitarized zone, humanitarian aid, an arms embargo and sanctions against Turkey for Northern and Eastern Syria. The politician from Vienna highlighted this demand during a plenary debate in the European Parliament at the end of October.
