Gedo: Rights of Kurds violated by isolation imposed on Öcalan

Syrian Kurdish Democratic Left Party Secretary General Salih Gedo said that the rights of the Kurdish people were violated by the isolation imposed on Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

Syrian Kurdish Democratic Left Party Secretary General Salih Gedo said that the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan for more than 25 years has been taken to a different stage with the guidance of Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan. Gedo added: “With the isolation, an unfair policy is being carried out against the Kurdish People's Leader. In this way, Turkey wants to cut off the Kurdish people’s leader’s ties with the world. He is not even allowed to meet with his family and lawyers. He is prevented from making phone calls, which is his right. This policy is a one-sided policy. With isolation, the rights of the Kurdish People's leader as well as of those who love freedom are violated."

Speaking about the initiative "Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan, Solution to the Kurdish Question", Salih Gedo said: "Recently, more than 3 million signatures have been collected demanding the physical freedom of the Kurdish People's leader in Northern and Eastern Syria. Now the people of the world are asking for his freedom. Human rights institutions and organizations, international powers and people who love freedom must take action to ensure the release of Öcalan."

Expose dirty politics

Salih Gedo pointed out that not only the Kurdish people but also the Arab, Assyrian, Armenian and Assyrian people participated in the "Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan, Solution to the Kurdish Question" campaign, and said: "The people's campaign to demand freedom for Leader Öcalan was an important step. People from Dêrîk to Qamishlo, from Raqqa to Deir ez-Zor, Hesekê, Manbij and Tebqa are demanding freedom for Leader Öcalan. The Turkish state is afraid of the politics of Leader Öcalan, and of the people's support for him.

International powers that are influential in world politics must stop remaining silent and listen to the demands of the people. Action must be taken according to the interests of the people. People do not accept this silence. The Turkish state and its dirty politics should be exposed."

Gedo said: "People, especially women, played a major role in the second phase of the initiative. These actions should be seen worldwide, taken into consideration and the voices of the people should be heard."

The Syrian Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan Initiative has visited 33 political parties and organizations in Northern and Eastern Syria since 4 May, within the scope of the international campaign launched on 10 October 2023 with the slogan "Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan, Solution to the Kurdish Question".
