This is the third expansion work at the camp. The Administration bought 70 acres of land for the new area. The camp has been faced with an increasing demand in recent times, after housing families struggling to survive in harsh conditions in Raqqa and its villages.
Girê Spî Camp Management co-chair, Muhammed El Sheikh said, that after the expansion works are now completed, and that they will be able to house 500 more families within a month.
After the invasion and genocide attacks launched by the Turkish state and its mercenaries on 9 October 2019, more than 300,000 citizens from Serêkaniyê and Girê Spî were forcibly displaced.
The camp from people from Girê Spî provides site to 3,531 people. In the camp where a total of 723 families stay, 2 tents are allocated for families with over 8 members.
