The Internationalist Commune of Rojava commemorated Martyr Andok Cotkar (real name Konstantin Gedig), who was murdered by an airstrike by the Turkish State on 16 October 2019, in the resistance of Serêkaniyê.
Martyr Andok was a front paramedic and saved the lives of many fighters. The Internationalist Commune said in a statement: "We are continuing your struggle and trying to live up to your example."
Konstantin had already joined the YPG in 2016 to fight side by side with the peoples of Rojava against ISIS. The Commune said: "Because he was working as such before, he got the surname „Cotkar“(farmer). He fought heroically on many frontlines in Manbij, Jarablus and Raqqa, where he was wounded. But Martyr Andok returned to join the protection of Şengal against ISIS - his plan was not to fight and return home as a war hero. He understood, to take responsibility in the defense of humanity means to make this same decision again and again, making every necessary sacrifice. That‘s why, directly after Turkey began to invade Serêkaniyê, Konstantin decided to go along with a group of friends. All of them were determined to protect the revolution and the peoples of Rojava. They left their units to head to Serêkaniyê together."
The statement continued: "After they successfully pushed back the mercenaries, liberating three villages and destroying a tank, Turkey cowardly attacked them from the air, killing first Martyr Andok and afterwards the three comrades that came to recover him. These friends knew the risk they were taking, but they did it anyway out of their deep respect and friendship for Şehid Andok. Who just liked the work as a farmer, loved the practical work in the Revolution and fulfilled his tasks with great joy and effort."
