Man from Afrin: We will continue to resist

The invading Turkish army and their allied gangs have confiscated the livelihood of Mihemed Kirîsh, who used to live in the Basuta village in Afrin’s Sherawa district before the occupation. Mihemed now makes a living selling salep in Shehba.

Thousands of people left Afrin and settled in Shehba in invasion attacks by the Turkish army and their allied gangs. The Turkish invasion forces also confiscated homes and property belonging to civilians in Afrin.

One of the people subjected to pillaging and robbery by Turkish occupation forces is Mihemed Kirîsh from Sherawa’s Basuta village.

Kirîş used to make a living of his 1.5 hectares of land through agriculture and husbandry. The Turkish army and their allied gangs have confiscated the land.

Kirîş has settled in Shehba, like thousands more from Afrin, and now sells salep drinks to make a living. Kirîsh said they continue to resist in Shehba: “We resist here too. We will continue to resist until we get back Afrin and everything else they stole from us.”

Mihemed Kirîsh prepares the salep drink, made from orchid roots endemic to the Anatolian region, and sells it in the Fafîn town, Maratê, Mislimiyê and Ehdas villages.
