The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (NES) released a statement responding to the remarks of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at the Peace Forum in Paris on 12 November, which included an assessment of the development of dialogue process in Syria. Lavrov said that negotiations between the Autonomous Administration the Syrian regime had stagnated with the US decision to remain in Syria.
Remarking that they remained ready for dialogue with Damascus in order for the achievement of a solution, the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria said their position was clear and that developments in the region would not change this view.
NES stressed that dialogue was always the focus of their attention and that this was also reflected in their practical steps.
“Russia is also informed of the details of the talks. A year ago, the Autonomous Administration handed over a roadmap for a political solution in Syria to Russia,” NES said.
The statement continued; “As the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, we state that efforts for a political solution have been made but no discussion of the problems has taken place so far because no practical step has been taken. So far, only military issues have been implemented. There are two things that can make this phase a success. Firstly, there must be a serious approach. The Autonomous Administration has made its position clear and expressed its willingness to engage in dialogue with the government in Damascus. Secondly, the participation of the forces active in Syria, in particular Russia, is necessary."
On the role of the US, the statement said: "The decision of the US to stay in Syria is connected with many different actors and international interests, but never with our efforts for a political solution through dialogue. Our attitude is in line with our national responsibilities and the decisions of our people."
