New measures to be taken to counter Covid increase in NE Syria

Evaluating the increase in the number of coronavirus cases in North and East Syria, Dr. Ciwan Mustafa, head of the health commission, said that they will quickly implement measures to try and counter this trend.

Recently there has been a serious increase in coronavirus cases in the North and East Syria regions. Making evaluations on the subject, Dr. Ciwan Mustafa said that they will quickly implement measures to try and reduce the number of cases.

Stating that they observed a decrease in the rate of spread of the virus during the summer season, Mustafa added that there has been an increase for the last 15 days. Noting that the decrease in temperatures accelerates the spread of the virus, Mustafa stated that the people’s not taking into account the measures is one of the main factors facilitating the spread of the virus.

Noting that the daily number in of cases in the region reached 200, Mustafa emphasized that these numbers pose a danger as the winter season approaches. He added that measures will be taken to control the virus, beginning with limitations in collective spaces and a constant information.

Mustafa noted that the World Health Organization did not provide enough assistance to the North and East Syria regions, which therefore remained weak in the fight against the virus. Stating that there are many reasons why aid cannot reach the regions of North and East Syria, Mustafa reminded that the closure of Til Koçer Border Gate caused the region to be deprived of important resources.

Speaking about the measures they have taken so far to counter the virus pandemic, Mustafa said: “We have created 17 centers to provide the necessary treatment of virus cases. We have created phone lines in 7 regions of the Autonomous Administration to report virus cases. Our people should also support us in this struggle. Let's wear masks and gloves. Let's not take the pandemic lightly. The next few months will be very important in this sense.”
