Number of families coming to Shehba after earthquake increased

With the increase in the number of families coming to Shehba from the neighbourhoods of Şêxmeqsûd and Eşrefiye after the earthquake, the Bakers Committee in Shehba increased the daily bread production.

After the 6 February earthquake, 3,000 families came from Aleppo's Shexmeqsud and Eşrefiye neighbourhoods to the Afrin and Shehba cantons. The areas are under embargo.

Afrin, which has experienced a shortage of flour and diesel due to the embargo, in addition to the large number of canton residents, has increased the amount of bread production by the Bakers Committee affiliated to the Shehba Canton Economic Committee.

After the first wave of immigration from both neighbourhoods, the committee increased the number of daily bread packages produced.

Mihemed El Ehmed, a member of the Bakeries Committee told ANHA: "Thousands of families took refuge in the Shehba canton after the earthquake. Despite the difficult living conditions and the embargo, Afrin refugees opened their tents to earthquake victims."

Various measures were taken after the increase in the number of canton residents, El Ehmed said, adding that "because of these situations, the bakers' committee increased the number of bread packages. We distribute more than 55,000 bread packages to the public daily through the communes."

Noting that there were 7 ovens in the canton of Shehba before, but only 5 of them could work due to the lack of fuel and diesel, El Ehmed added that each oven in Shehba worked at least 16 hours a day.

El Ehmed called on the relevant parties to end the embargo to allow for humanitarian and basic needs to reach the region.
