Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), reaffirmed support for the Kurds in Syria, stating that the PUK has consistently advocated for Kurdish unity and remains committed to supporting the Kurdish liberation movement in Syria.
The Unity of Kurdish Unity and Common Stance Conference kicked off in Qamishli, northeastern Syria, on Saturday, 26 April 2025, with the participation of 400 representatives from across the greater Kurdistan region-including the north, south, east, and west-to foster intra-Kurdish dialogue and unity. The conference was also attended by a delegation from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) which was led by Amin Baba Sheikh, with Salar Sarhad as a member of the delegation.
Amin Baba Sheikh delivered a speech on behalf of the PUK President, in which he said: "We extend our best wishes for the success of this conference and reaffirm our support. The PUK has consistently advocated for Kurdish unity and remains committed to supporting the Kurdish liberation movement in Syria. We believe that stability in Syria is integral to the stability of the broader region, and therefore, the rights of all communities must be safeguarded."
He added: "Our objectives will be realised through national unity and mutual understanding. We are acutely aware of the challenges and developments unfolding in the region. To address these challenges, it is essential that all political parties, as well as ethnic and religious communities, stand together in pursuit of our collective rights."
In conclusion, he said: "The stability of Syria has a direct impact on regional stability. The unity of political parties serves as a beacon of hope for both the international community and the Kurdish people. It is imperative that we remain vigilant against any attempts to undermine the unity of the Kurdish people."
