PYD says it collected 37,000 signatures in and around Derik demanding the delisting of PKK

The PYD announced that it has collected 37,000 signatures in and around Derik for the campaign launched to demand the removal of the PKK from the EU list of terrorist organisations.

The Democratic Union Party (PYD) in Derik announced the results of the petition it launched to demand that the PKK be removed from the EU list of terrorist organisations.

In a statement read by PYD Dêrik member Mutîi Elî, the party said that Kurdish, Arab, Syriac, Armenian and Chaldean peoples, intellectuals, politicians, lawyers, activists and all citizens living in Derik participated in the campaign.

The statement added that the PKK was established to protect the existence of the Kurds at a time when the invaders in Kurdistan implemented policies of assimilation, denial, massacre and oppression against Kurds.

The statement pointed out that states claiming to be harmed by the PKK's struggle, especially Turkey, want to keep the PKK in the list of terrorist organisations for their own interests.

The petition signed by 37 thousand people asking to remove the PKK from the EU list of terrorist organisations will be submitted to the Council of Europe and the European Court of Human Rights.
