PYD Women's Assembly called for an investigation into the massacres of Alawites in Syria.
The Women's Assembly of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) made a statement in front of its headquarters in Qamishlo regarding the systematic massacres against the Alawite population in the coastal cities of Syria. According to reports, over a thousand civilians have been killed on the Syrian coast and the Latakia mountains since 6 March.
Reading the press statement, PYD Women's Assembly Chair Huriya Shemdin said that the planned mass killings of women and children is a war crime and a violation of international law.
Shemdin strongly condemned the sectarian war, violence and hate speech spreading in Syria and warned that this war would plunge the country into even greater chaos. She demanded that the incidents on the Syrian coast must be investigated and those responsible for the bloodshed of the Syrian people must be held accountable.
Shemdin called on the international community, women's organizations and movements, human rights and humanitarian organizations to take a serious stand against genocide and ethnic cleansing against the security of Syria.
Shemdin emphasized that peaceful dialogue and a political solution is the way to protect Syria from violence and division.
