Students who cannot enter the schools damaged by the earthquake in Shehba Canton continue their education in tents.
Shehba and Afrin Cantons Council appointed a group of engineers to determine the status of the schools in the canton. The report issued after the inspection showed that 15 schools were damaged in the earthquake and were not suitable for education.
5,500 students were studying in these schools located in Shehba. Afrin and Shehba Council held a meeting to find alternative solutions. The Assembly wanted to find definite solutions to this problem by restoring the schools. However, due to the Damascus government's siege of the canton, it did not allow the passage of construction materials, therefore the Assembly had to seek other solutions.
According to the statement issued by the Afrin Education and Training Committee and Shehba Committee co-chair Zelux Bekir, it was decided to set up tents to continue this academic year.
Zelux Bekir said that 33 tents were set up in the garden of Martyr Egid School in Ehdas and 20 tents were set up in Martyr Kendal School in the village of Til Qirah. He said that if tents are provided, 50 more tents can be set up in another area.
Bekir said that they will repair the damaged schools when materials and opportunities allow and called on the government of Damascus to immediately lift the siege on the canton.
