Due to permanent Turkish artillery attacks the schools in Shêrawa were closed. The pupils are no longer safe for life.
In the Shêrawa district of Afrin there are ten schools for 1,800 pupils in the region. Schools for refugee children from Afrin have also been established in the village of Ziyaret and Eshtefarê. The schools now had to close due to the Turkish artillery attacks.
"School attendance life-threatening"
Zeynep Xebawî of the Education Committee describes the situation as follows: "With the advance of the Syrian regime in Idlib and Aleppo, the Turkish state has extended its attacks on the regions of Shehba and Shêrawa. Due to the current attacks, all people in the region are in danger, especially school attendance is life-threatening."
As a result, the number of pupils has decreased; the schools in the villages of Bashamra, Mezin, Koltiyê and Burcqas have been completely closed. Xebawî strongly condemns the silence of the international community regarding the attacks on the civilian population.
Student Mufîda Hebeş, herself a refugee, spoke to the ANHA news agency and said: "The Turkish state expelled us and bombed our schools in Afrin. Now they are bombing our schools here. What is our crime?"
Student Cihan Musafa tells: "The village of Aqîbê, where we are staying, is attacked daily by the Turkish army with artillery. We want to continue our education, but since our schools are bombarded, we can't."
