The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have rescued over 11.000 civilians in the last 2 weeks in the ongoing operation in Hajin, the last significant piece of territory under ISIS occupation. A majority of people who fled are reported to be families of ISIS gangs.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights announced that thousands of civilians have been rescued in the “operation to end terrorism” by the SDF in Hajin.

According to the SOHR, the number of civilians fleeing ISIS gangs in Hajin has increased. Over 11.000 civilians have fled and sought refuge with the SDF in the last two weeks.

In a comment to the AFP, SOHR Director Rami Abdul Rahman said, “The last two weeks have seen the most significant flight,” and announced that 11.500 people had fled the gangs.

Abdul Rahman pointed out that most of the people who fled are families of ISIS gangs.

Since the beginning of September, 15.000 people have fled the last piece of ISIS occupied territory.

SDF has also captured at least 700 gang members who disguised themselves among the families. Civilians are taken to safe zones after identification while gang members are placed in custody.

Abdul Rahman said, “ISIS is at a point of collapse, they have little resilience. What has been hindering the SDF’s advance is the landmines.” The SOHR estimates that ISIS will be defeated in the coming days.
