TEV-DEM called upon the United Nations and human rights organizations to fulfil their legal and humanitarian duties to stop Turkey’s attacks against North and East Syria.
Movement for a Democratic Society (TEV-DEM) members made a statement to the press on the Turkish state’s goals for North and East Syrian territory.
The press statement read out in front of the TEV-DEM office in Tirbesiye said the following:
“The Turkish state has been attacking Syrian lands since 9 October 2019 with the argument of establishing a safe zone. The attacks of the Turkish state aspire to change the demography of North and East Syria. The areas attacked by the Turkish state are the safest in Syria. The Turkish state clearly uses the Syrian refugees to put pressure on European states and to invade Syrian lands on this basis.
We call upon the United Nations and human rights organizations to fulfil their legal and humanitarian duties to stop Turkey’s attacks against North and East Syrian territory, and to bring the Turkish state to account for its violation of international laws and values.”
