Turkish-linked mercenaries occupy 28 villages in Zirgan forcing 150,000 to leave

The invading Turkish army and its mercenaries have been attacking Zirgan and its villages every day since they occupied Serêkaniyê in October 2019. In total 28 villages have been occupied and 150,000 people have been displaced.

After the occupation of Serêkaniyê, as a result of the Turkish state's attacks on Zirgan, 150,000 people were displaced and 28 out of 60 villages were occupied.

The distance between the district of Zirgan and the posts where the mercenaries affiliated with the invading Turkish army are located is of just 2 kilometres. Mercenaries bomb Zirgan with heavy weapons and rockets every day.

Since the beginning of July, the invading Turkish state and its mercenaries have intensified their attacks on Zirgan villages. The Turkish state targeted the villages of Dede Ebdel, Xedrawî, Ûm Hermala and El-Niwêhat from its base in the occupied village of Dawudiye. As a result of the bombardment, civilians' homes were badly damaged and one civilian was injured.

One of the residents of Zirgan, Memdûh Sêfo, told ANHA that they would not leave their village despite the attacks. “The enemy is very close to our village, they are attacking every day. We are not afraid of their attacks. This land is ours, we live in our own country. We will not leave our village and our home," he said.

Memdûh Sêfo said that the aim of the invading Turkish state is to displace the local people and added that the invaders want to change the demographic structure of Zirgan, just like they did in Afrin, Serêkaniyê and Girê Spî.

Sêfo continued: "As the people of Northern and Eastern Syria, we are aware of the plans of the invading Turkish state and what it wants to do in the region. The Turkish state is attacking everyone without discrimination. The Kurdish, Arab and Assyrian people should not give up their lands."

Cemîl Mihemed told ANHA that the invading Turkish army attacked the villages of Zirgan every day, looted the houses, and said that animals too have perished in the attacks.

Emphasizing that the aim of the invading Turkish state is to destabilize the region where peace prevails, Ebduletih Silêman said: “The mercenaries are acting according to the planning determined by the invading Turkish state. Their main purpose is to damage the property of the civilian population. Of course, people are aware of this. The invading Turkish state continues the policy carried out by the Ottoman Empire, but cannot win the determination of our people."
