Afrin has been occupied by Turkey for two years. Since then, terrifying reports have come out about the situation of the civilian population in the occupied region.
ANHA news agency published an interview with a woman who had fled the village of Kefer Şîlê in Afrin. The woman returned to her village after the Turkish invasion and stayed there for almost two years. After her renewed flight, she reported impressively on the situation of the civilian population in the occupied region.
"Women are kidnapped"
The woman, K.E. reports: "The Al-Amshat militia kidnapped a 20-year-old woman from Rajo. We have heard that she was taken to Idlib. She was subjected to sexual violence and torture. As far as we know, the woman is currently being held in the Al-Dana hospital in Idlib. They say she is in very bad situation. In Jindires they have kidnapped a woman because she allegedly took pictures of a neighbour's house and sent them to the YPG/YPJ. She is still in the hands of Ahrar al-Sharqiya." The woman further reports thefts by the Ahrar-al-Sham militia.
Contract killings for the MIT
The woman continues: "The Al-Hamzat group, in exchange for 100,000 Syrian lira from Turkish intelligence, kidnapped and murdered a civilian named Muhidin Abu-Aziz (58) and his wife from the village of Kefer Şîlê. They strangled him and then shot him. His wife was tortured to death." She further reports about a man who was also murdered for a payment of 35,000 SL.
Violations of rights against civilians continue
K.E. continues: "Many civilians are kidnapped under the pretext that they have relations with the autonomous administration or the YPG/YPJ. No one goes outside because everyone is afraid of being kidnapped. I have been practically unable to leave my house in Afrin for the past two years. I have also not been able to go into my olive grove. The situation of the civilian population is terrible. International human rights organizations must intervene urgently."
