YPJ pays tribute to commander Gulçiya Gabar

The Women's People's Defense Units (YPJ) Command commemorated Gulçiya Gabar, one of the HGP Central Headquarters commanders, who fell as a martyr as the result of an attack carried out by the Turkish state on 29 April 2019.

Gulçiya Gabar, a member of the PAJK Assembly and one of the HPG Central Headquarters Commanders, fell as a martyr following a Turkish attack that took place in the Çemankê area of the Garê region on 29 April 2019.

In a written statement, the YPJ Command said: “The male-dominated state system based on fascism can only be pushed back and defeated by female insurgents like Commander Gulçiya. Comrade Gulçiya fought a fierce struggle for freedom in every inch of the country.”

The statement continued: “Comrade Gulçiya embroidered every moment of her life with the spirit of women's resistance in order to save and liberate the Kurdish women and people from the invaders. She left behind a historical line of resistance to all women. In her revolutionary struggle against the armies of the states, Commander Gulçiya fought for the right to life with great sacrifice and put this struggle at the center of her revolutionary life. Upon the call for historical mobilization, Comrade Gulçiya joined the Rojava Women's revolution from the mountains of Kurdistan, to defend the people of Northern and Eastern Syria against the Islamic State.”

The statement continued: “We extend our condolences to the family of Comrade Commander Gulçiya as well as to the Kurdish people. As YPJ, we commemorate Comrade Commander Gulçiya with gratitude and respect."
