Zeyneb Murad: Syrian regime must take Kurds into account

Zeyneb Murad said that the Kurdish Unity Conference would serve as a fundamental step toward national conferences across Kurdistan.

The co-chair of the Kurdistan National Congress (KNK), Zeyneb Murad, told ANHA News Agency that the Kurdish Unity Conference would serve as a fundamental step toward national conferences across Kurdistan.

Murad emphasized that the decisions of the conference are not solely the responsibility of the Kurds in Rojava. She added that the Kurds possess experience and proposals for a solution, and for this reason, the Syrian regime must take the Kurdish stance into account.

Murad described the outcomes of the Rojava "Conference on Unity and Common Stance" saying it was "a great success and a historic step for the Kurdish people and especially for Rojava Kurdistan." She added that the conference presented significant gains regarding Syria's future and securing the rights of the Kurdish people. "This conference has given morale and strength to our people, to political circles in Kurdistan and abroad. The international community has also closely followed the process," she said.

Murad said that with the establishment of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, a new era began in the region. She emphasized that the Autonomous Administration model has become a promising alternative for Syria's future.

She noted that the Kurdish people live in four parts and that the connection between these parts is strong. Zeyneb stated that the conference will have an impact not only on Rojava but also on other regions where Kurds live. Highlighting that the resolution of problems in one part affects the others, she said: "We saw the impact of the message ‘Peace and Democratic Society’ by the esteemed Abdullah Öcalan. This conference will have a similar impact. Therefore, we can say this conference is a significant step toward building national conferences in Kurdistan."

Drawing attention to the implementation process of the decisions made at the conference, Murad stressed that this is a responsibility not only for the people of Rojava but for all Kurds. She underlined that political actors, civil society organizations, and all segments of society must take on this responsibility. "The outcomes of the conference can become a source of strength and support in diplomacy and on the international stage," she said.

Recalling that the establishment of a "temporary administration" in Syria after the collapse of the Ba'ath regime also occurred through a conference, Murad noted that this process was based on a monist understanding and was met with backlash by the people. Murad continued: "The Syrian regime must especially listen to the voice and stance of the Kurds, because the Kurds are a guarantor for the success of this process. With their experience and proposals for a solution, the Kurds will enable many other groups to join the process. Therefore, the Syrian regime can no longer ignore this voice."
