Afrin citizens are living in a nightmare

A citizen in Afrin confirmed mercenaries and Turkish army are destroying everything.

The Turkish state and its mercenary allies have plundered and are destroying Afrin, which was one of the most peaceful cities in Syria, despite the war.

Afrin was targeted because it represented what the Turkish state cannot accept: tolerance, co-existence of different nations, cultures, languages, an autonomous administration where it is the people who have the lead and participate in all decision making processes in the various spheres of their life.

Turkey would never tolerate that, and this is why it entered Afrin, it evicted people from their houses, it destroyed and murdered.

And now, once in the city, Turkey and its mercenary allies are continuing their violent destruction of whatever trace is left of that peaceful Afrin and, while they are at it, they just steal, loot, destroy people’s properties and kidnap, kill, rape, torture the citizens left in the city.

In this nightmare and horror scenario some people manage to send out messages and photos to document what Turkey and the mercenaries are doing in Afrin.

A citizen who lives in Afrin city centre and did not want his name to be revealed, told ANHA that they felt like strangers in their own houses and living spaces.

“The situation in the city is terrible.” he said and added: “This was once a city full of life, crowded and noisy and now it is just a big torture centre.”

The source said that the occupying forces are harassing and repressing people but at the same they are also destroying the stones, the building of the city.

The Afrin citizen said that Turkish military and its mercenary allies are writing on walls racist slogans.

“Almost all walls in the city have been covered with racist insults and writings”, said the source adding that “Turkish military and mercenaries have no respect for anything in the city.”

The source sent out a photo from a street in Afrin. On the wall of Afrin university the writing says, ‘Afrin is Arab, the Arabs will stay’.

Reports that women have been forced to cover themselves have been confirmed by the source and added that “the sound of guns never stops. At times the mercenary groups are fighting among themselves.”

The source also confirmed that “people are afraid to leave their houses as violence is high on the streets. Afrin was such a safe place before and now people are afraid to go out because Turkish army and mercenaries can kidnap them or shoot them.”
