In a written statement on Thursday, the General Command of the Women's Defence Units announced that one of their Arab fighters, Hela Serêkaniyê (Ebîr Fayiz), was martyred while on duty on January 1st.

The statement said: “First of all, we commemorate our comrade Hela Serêkaniyê with respect and offer our condolences to her family and all our patriotic people. Our comrade Hela joined our defence units as a young Arab woman from the town of Serêkaniyê, which remains under continuous Turkish bombardment. Comrade Hela fulfilled her duties in the spirit of peoples’ unity that guarantees the freedom of society and fought for the freedom of her people.

Comrade Hela quickly learned about revolutionary life, and she came to the fore among her comrades with her practices and militant attitude. The revolution that started in Rojava prompted people like Hela to take the responsibilities of a democratic nation. All features of female militancy were embodied in the personality of Hela. In a short time, she made significant progress in both ideological and military fields. She always remained at the forefront of the battlefield because of her qualifications and talents.

As a young Arab woman, she held a strong position in the struggle for women's liberation. Her passion and enthusiasm could be seen in every moment of her life. She performed her revolutionary tasks with the spirit of female responsibility that promotes life and freedom. She always produced creative solutions to the challenges that she faced. She showed great devotion to protecting her people in all her duties. She took her place at the forefront to protect her country, land and people against the invasion attacks of the Turkish state.

Comrade Hela was martyred on January 1, 2023, while she was on duty. Our comrade Hela Serêkaniyê illuminated our way with her brave stance and leadership in the struggle. We reiterate our promise to her and all her comrades to realize their goals and objectives.

Realizing the dreams of our fallen companions strengthens our determination to live a free life. Our cause will be successful with our devotion to the martyrs.”
