After the attack in Paris, the Filipino women's alliance GABRIELA issued a statement of solidarity with the Kurdish women's movement.
The statement said: "GABRIELA Philippines, a grassroots democratic alliance of Filipino women, stands in solidarity with Kurdish women and the Kurdish people and demands justice and accountability from fascist governments that do it in the best way have failed to protect Kurdish communities in different countries from violence and, in the worst case, have instigated attacks against them."
GABRIELA added: "On 23 December, three Kurdish activists - including Evîn Goyi, a leading figure in the Kurdish movement - were murdered in the Kurdish Ahmet Kaya Cultural Center in Paris, while three other people were wounded. The attack comes almost a decade after the murder of three Kurdish activists in Paris, who have still not been brought to justice. It is therefore of the utmost importance that the French government does justice to all victims of these vicious attacks and immediately deals with the systematic violence against the Kurdish population in their country."
Attacks from all sides
GABRIELA added: "Just two months ago, the women's liberation activist Nagihan Akarsel was murdered in the southern Kurdish city of Sulaymaniyah right in front of her house. In Iran, Kurdish women are being arrested and/or killed for fighting for their people's freedom. The Turkish army uses drones and chemical weapons to massacre the Kurdish population. Elsewhere, they face harassment, discrimination and other forms of abuse.
These attacks coincide with increasing instances of violence afflicting women around the world, particularly in recent years.
As we seek justice for our slain sisters and comrades, we should also hold accountable the forces behind the suffering of the women and peoples of the world. Keep up the fight for social justice and liberation! Down with the tyrannical regimes! Down with imperialism! Long live international solidarity! Jin Jiyan Azadi! Free Kurdistan!"
