Kongra Star celebrates its 19th anniversary opening a health center in Shehba
Kongra Star opened a health center in Shehba on the occasion of the 19th anniversary of its establishment.
Kongra Star was founded on 15 January 2016. To celebrate its 19th anniversary, the women's umbrella organization opened a health center in Shehba.
The health center, named Shahmaran, was opened in Fafîn district. Representatives of women's organizations in the region attended the opening.
Shehba Health Committee member Şîraz Silêman spoke about the service the center will offer to women.
In the same context, Kongra Star organized an event with the participation of dozens of women at Serdem Camp in Shehba.
Speaking at the event, Kongra Star Afrin and Shehba Canton Coordination member Ferîde Îbo congratulated Kongra Star on its anniversary and said: "Since the establishment of Kongra Star, there has been a positive change in the lives of women in the region."
Sureye Hebeş, member of the Martyrs' Families Council of Afrin and Shehba Canton, spoke about the role of Kongra Star in organizing women in all areas of life.
Kongra Star
Kongra Star, the women’s umbrella organization, was founded on 15 January 2016. The aim of the organization is “to build an ethical and political society as well as to achieve the freedom of women and society.”
In Rojava Kurdistan, the women’s movement began in 2005 under the name Yekitiya Star, working within society and social organising. At the same time, within the PYD, for the development of women’s politics, autonomous and women’s projects were organised. From 2005 until 2011, a huge amount of work was done in the face of great difficulties and oppression from the Syrian state and its mentality.
Yekitiya Star played a leadership role in the Rojava Revolution. It organised thousands of women into all kinds of work in society and politics. In 2016, the women’s movement renamed itself as Kongra Star to continue its work fighting for women’s freedom and equality. Kongra Star is organised with more width and depth on the experience and achievements of Yekitiya Star. The system of equal representation practiced and promoted by Kongra Star has become an example in the Middle East and in the world.
