Many people taken into custody in Izmir and Istanbul

Many people were taken into custody in new police operations in Izmir and Istanbul.

A police operation was carried out on many houses in Istanbul this morning. Within the scope of an investigation conducted in Izmir, Socialist Youth Associations Federation (SGDF) members Özge Doğan and Yaren Tuncer were taken into custody. It was learned that the 2 young women, whose reasons for detention could not be learned, were taken to the Istanbul Provincial Police Department in Fatih.

Meryem Yıldırım was taken into custody in Izmir within the scope of the same investigation.

Istanbul

Mazlum Korkmaz, who had served 10 years in prison and was recently released, as well as Yunus Eslan, Emrah Ekmekçi and Erkan Özmen were taken into custody in the Arnavutköy district in house raids conducted in Istanbul. The detained people were working in the Arnavutköy district organization of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party).

Fırat Güner, Lütfü Kaya and Aziz Değirmenci were taken into custody in house raids conducted in different districts of Istanbul.

Those detained were taken to the Istanbul Provincial Police Department, but were not allowed to see their lawyer.

The SGDF said in a statement: "We will continue to resist the attacks of fascism and with the power of the youth, we will bring our struggle for socialism to victory."
