The Women's Office of the Syrian Democratic Council (MSD) organized a Syrian national women's dialogue forum in Aleppo on October 18-19 under the slogan ‘The unity of Syrian women is the achievement of solution and peace in Syria’.

Speaking to ANHA, the women participating in the forum said that women have responsibilities in resolving the conflicts in the country.

Engineer and journalist Nadya Toma drew attention to the conflict and crisis in Syria and said: “Syria needs great efforts to get out of this crisis. The role of women is important in these conflicts and crises. Because it is women and children who suffer the most in wars and face torture and abuse. Therefore, the suffering can end with the intervention of women. On this basis, women need to organise more. More efforts should be made for the country to achieve stability, peace and a solution. Women should participate in the writing of the new constitution in Syria and defend their rights. It is very important for women to be in unity. We can achieve peace through unity and solidarity. Peace in Syria depends on the unity of women. Only women can bring the country together.”

Emphasising the need to hold panel discussions, workshops and meetings on the problems in Syria, Şehnaz El-Hefel, Co-Chair of the Executive Council of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of Deir ez-Zor Canton, said that the role of women is very important for the solution of the problem.

Şehnaz El-Hefel said: “The Democratic Autonomous Administration’s solution model has been implemented in North and East Syria. Solutions have been developed for the main problems experienced by women, and women's participation in governance has exceeded 50 percent. Now women have become pioneers in political, social, cultural and military issues. A meeting without women will fail. Women in Deir ez-Zor have gained a political understanding thanks to the Autonomous Administration. Women know what is going on around them and in society. They try to protect the gains of their society. Women must be included in the process if a solution is to be achieved in Syria.”

Member of the Executive Council of the Syrian Women's Union, Ilyham Mitlî, said: “If women participate in the efforts to find a solution in Syria, the conflict can end. Women can defend their existence with power, understanding and organisation. Women should participate in the constitution-making process. If women are prevented from participating in the solution, the problems will not be solved and the same problems will continue.”
