Documentary Commune Releases trailer for docuseries "Kurdish Resurrection”

The Martyr Gülistan Tara Documentary Commune released the trailer for the docuseries “From Genocide to a Free Life – The Kurdish Resurrection”.

The Martyr Gülistan Tara Documentary Commune, which announced its establishment recently, has released the trailer for the docuseries series “From Genocide to a Free Life - The Kurdish Resurrection”. The project, which deals with the history of the Kurdish freedom movement, is the result of over eight years of intensive work involving teams from all four parts of Kurdistan and from abroad. It is based on conversations with thousands of witnesses, around 400 interviews and a multitude of written and visual documents from the respective epoch. In addition, the documentation includes a musical accompaniment specially composed for the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which was recorded by an orchestra put together especially for the occasion.

90-episode docuseries

The docuseries series, titled in Kurdish “Ji qirkirinê ber bi jiyana azad ve – Vejîna Kurd”, draws on PKK archive material and contains a wealth of previously unpublished information and documents. Each episode is dedicated to a specific event or period in the history of the PKK. According to the Commune, the series comprises a total of 90 episodes and has been translated into several languages. The Kurdish version will be broadcast on Stêrk TV, while the Turkish version will be shown on Medya Haber TV. The series will also be published on the Gulistan Tara Documentary Commune's YouTube channel.

Three seasons

The documentary series is divided into three seasons. The first season begins with the birth of PKK founder Abdullah Öcalan and ends with the start of the armed struggle on August 15, 1984. The second season covers the period from 1984 to the “international conspiracy” in February 1999, as the Kurdish society refers to the abduction of Öcalan from Kenya to Turkey, which is contrary to international law. The third season deals with the events from 1999 to the end of the so-called Dolmabahçe Consensus of 2015. The agreement was a ten-point plan negotiated between Abdullah Öcalan and the Turkish state to resolve the Kurdish question. The dialogue process was unilaterally terminated shortly thereafter by Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Revolution of Resurrection

In addition to the painful and challenging history of the Kurdish people suffering from genocidal persecution and tyranny, the documentary also sheds light on the “Revolution of Resurrection” brought about by the PKK. It also addresses the political, military and social transformation in the Middle East and worldwide. The documentary provides a detailed insight into the decades-long struggle of the Kurdish movement and uses evidence, documents and witnesses to show the challenges and achievements of the present time. Furthermore, it analyzes the impact on regional and international power relations.

Comprehensive biography of Öcalan

A special focus is placed on Abdullah Öcalan, whose life and influence on the Kurdish movement are traced throughout the documentary series. Thus, the series also serves as a comprehensive biography of Öcalan. The series “Vejîna Kurd” is likely to be an important historical document that will be a valuable written and visual reference for various social and scientific circles.

Updates on the commune’s work can be followed through its social media accounts.
