Kurdish film days in Latin America

Groups promoting solidarity with the Kurdish people in Latin America organized a Kurdish movie festival. Although Kurdish films are screened for the first time in the continent, they attract a great deal of attention.

Eight movies (Evîn Di Rûyê Qirkirinê De, Darên bi tenê, Mal, Piştî şer, Ji Bo Azadîye, Sîka Çîya yê Kurmênc, Berfin, Dema Drîreşkan) produced by Komina Film A Rojava (Rojava Film Commune) are screened with subtitles in different countries of Latin America. The movie screenings will continue until the end of the year.

The Kurdish film days attract a lot of attention even though the event is organized for the first time in the continent. Since most of the movie theatres remain full until the end of the year, Kurdish films are mostly screened at different institutions. Some films have been screened in Mexico, Chile, Paraguay and Bolivia so far and will continue until the end of the year.

Eight movies were screened in 5 days in a row in 5 different venues in La Paz, capital of Bolivia. After the movie screenings, the first two volumes of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan's defence in court were also introduced to audiences. After each screening, discussions were held about the Kurdistan Freedom Struggle.

The Kurdish cinema is not well known in Latin America. The organizing team in Bolivia said that they would shoot promotional videos to better promote Kurdish movies and the Kurds. They added that they would write articles to be published by newspapers and magazines.
