Kurdish Language Day celebrated in the Euphrates Canton

On the occasion of 15 May, Kurdish Language Day, three different events were organized in the cities of Kobanê and Ayn Issa.

Various events were organized in the Euphrates Canton in celebration of Kurdish Language Day. Led by the Canton Education and Teaching Council, the activities in Kobanê and Ayn Issa highlighted the cultural and historical importance of the Kurdish language through tree planting, fine arts exhibitions, and student performances.

The first event was a tree-planting ceremony held on Miştenûr Hill in Kobanê. Jointly organized by Kobanê University, the Education and Teaching Council, and the Ecology Committee, the event saw 1,500 saplings planted in the soil.

A fine arts exhibition was also opened at the Martyr Osman Primary School in Kobanê as part of the day’s celebrations. The exhibition, prepared over a three-month period, showcased handmade crafts and artworks by 39 students, and focused on the Kurdish language and culture.

Meanwhile, a large-scale celebration took place at the Martyr Îsmaîl El Hemed Primary School in Ayn Issa. The program was attended by representatives from the Canton Education and Teaching Council, dozens of students and their families, members of the city council, and many individuals from various institutions and committees.

Speaking at the event, General School Director Îsa Cuman Îsa said that a mother tongue is directly tied to a people’s existence and future. "We are able to celebrate this day thanks to the sacrifices of martyrs and the intellectual legacy of Leader Abdullah Öcalan. Defending our language and identity is the foundation of a dignified life."

Students from Ayn Issa and surrounding camps also took the stage, performing poems, songs, and short theatrical pieces in both Kurdish and Arabic. The event delivered a powerful message about preserving the mother tongue and passing it on to future generations.
