Last preparations for 8th Amed Theater Festival

The program of the 8th Amed Theater Festival, organized by Amed City Theater from 20 to 30 October, has been announced. Many groups from Urmia to Germany will participate in the festival, which will draw attention to the destruction of nature.

Amed City Theater will organize the 8th Amed Theater Festival between 20 and 30 October. In order to draw attention to the attacks against nature in many cities, especially in Şırnak, the slogan of the festival is "Va Cûdî va ye ev ax!". Some 18 plays will be staged. In addition, 2 seminars and 1 workshop will be held.

Speaking about the festival, Yavuz Akkuzu, one of the actors of the Amed City Theater, said: “Just as Kurdish politics resists the policies of the current government, we are resisting with theatre, by organizing festivals, by making tours and by learning our language.” Noting that many theater groups from cities such as Germany, Kirkuk, Urmiye, Istanbul, Van and Batman will attend the festival, Akkuzu said: “We have reached out to Kurdish theatre actors and companies in many different countries and cities and asked them to attend to our festival."

Pointing to the slogan set for the festival, Akkuzu said: "The reason we have chosen 'Va Cûdî va ye ev ax!' as our slogan is because of the attacks against the nature of Kurdistan." Noting that artists are responsible for nature, the environment, language and the public, Akkuzu added: "We thought it would be good to remind the destruction of the environment going on in Şırnak."

'The tragedy witnessed in Sur cannot be forgotten'

Pointing to the "Sur Culture Road Festival" organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in the city, Akkuzu said: "After the dramatic events in Sur, they think a festival can close this situation. Our people should not forget the tragedy we experienced in Sur. That's why they should follow Kurdish theater. We invite our people to attend our theater festival. If they have something they want to convey to us, we invite them to do so. Let's discuss and exchange opinions.”
