The efforts to create revolutionary cinema and to train filmmakers in Northern and Eastern Syria continue.
The Northern and Eastern Syria Culture and Art Movement (TEV ÇAND) continues its efforts to develop Kurdish cinema. In line with the activities that started under the roof of Komîna Fîlma a Rojava (Rojava Film Commune) in 2015, workshops and courses were opened in many regions, especially in Qamishlo and Kobanê.
The workshops are attended by tens of people, while the courses last for 3 months. Trainings are given in the fields of scenario, direction, use of camera, history of cinema, Kurdish cinema, production, sound, lighting, costume and make-up.
On the other hand, the participants of the courses are putting what they learn into practice by collaborating on the filming of movies and television series.
New workshop
The Rojava Film Commune is carrying out a new workshop for the development of Kurdish cinema. The workshop started on 9 April in Qamishlo and was attended by 40 people, mostly university students.
Egîd Nûman, the director of the cinema workshop spoke to ANHA about the work they are carrying out in Qamishlo. He said that the main aim of these workshops is to train filmmakers and to support the social revolution with this work.
Nûman underlined the importance of making films in the mother language and said: “Mostly, young people from Kobanê and Serêkaniyê attend the workshops. This shows that young people are well aware of the consequences of war. Young people also show great interest in cinema and want to express their dreams through movies.”
