The PKK TEV-ÇAND Committee on Friday commemorated film director Halil Dağ on the anniversary of his death.
The PKK TEV-ÇAND Committee released a written message to pay homage to Kurdish director Halil Uysal (Halil Dağ).
Director Halil Dağ fell as a martyr on 1 April 2008, killed by a Turkish attack. "Heval Halil left a lasting legacy. With endless energy and love, he made a unique effort for 13 years in the mountains. Comrade Halil became a writer, photographer, director, revolutionary and guerrilla. He became a friend of the mountains. Halil means best friend in the Arabic language. He was the best and sincerest friend of the mountains,” the TEV-ÇAND statement said.
“Comrade Halil lived a life worthy of his name. 'We have a camera, we have a comrade,' he used to say. He wrote about life, the intensity of the war, untimely farewells, the laughter, joy and memories of the guerrillas. He took unforgettable pictures and made news. He opened a new war front. The guerrilla photos he took warmed the hearts; we are left with mountain views, memories, feelings, beliefs and promises. He gave life to the ongoing stories with his movies. He wrote poetry, turning guerrilla life into literature,” added the statement.
“Halil loved mountains, mountains and everybody loved him back. He travelled through the cliffs, the deep valleys, the tops of the mountains searching for hidden and unfinished stories. He loved the water, soil and fire of the mountains. Halil Dag created a mountain cinema. Despite all the difficult and 'impossible' situations, he created historical works," the statement said.
“He placed a significant emphasis on the free Kurdish women and the Women's Freedom Movement in his articles and films. Comrade Halil was in love with free life. He was in love with the guerrillas, the mountains and Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan. He always tried to fulfil the promise he made to Öcalan. In his articles, he described those moments he spent with Öcalan. He struggled for years in the free mountains based on Öcalan’s ideas. He loved traveling and North Kurdistan. His last project was called 'Ararat Mountain Travelers'. He went to the north of the country with the guerrillas and was bid farewell. Our promise and duty are to follow in his footprints and to secure the freedom of Öcalan. Comrade Halil is immortal,” said the statement.
