DAKB-FEDA: We stand with Syrian Alawites
FEDA and DAKB condemned the attacks on Alawites in Syria and called for solidarity against attempts to eradicate Alawism.
FEDA and DAKB condemned the attacks on Alawites in Syria and called for solidarity against attempts to eradicate Alawism.
In response to the massacres against Alawites in Syria, the Democratic Alevi Federation (FEDA) and the Democratic Alawite Women's Union (DAKB) released a joint statement urging immediate action and support for the community under attack.
The statement said: 'We must not allow the Yazids to make us relive Karbala once more' and declared that since Syria fell under the control of the ISIS-affiliated Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) gangs, Alawites have been subjected to systematic massacres. It was emphasized that the reactions to these massacres have not been sufficient to stop them. The statement also warned of a potential genocide targeting Alawites."
Attack by HTS, SNA, and ISIS
The statement of FEDA and DAKB continued: "The regions where Alawites live have come under attack by the armed groups HTS, the Syrian National Army (SNA), and the so-called Islamic State (ISIS). Just as was done to the Yazidis not long ago, a genocide is being carried out openly before the eyes of the world. The genocidal attacks launched directly against Alawites by HTS and SNA are intended to eradicate the Alawite people and hand over the corridor leading to the Mediterranean to a Turkish nationalist and Sunni ideological agenda. In an attempt to make their attacks more effective and their brutality even more terrifying, HTS, SNA, and ISIS gangs are issuing jihadist calls from mosques."
Alawism is being eradicated
The statement added: "Thousands of our Syrian Alawite brothers and sisters have been massacred under the control of HTS and other armed groups backed by the Turkish state. We must not lose sight of the fact that these attacks serve highly strategic objectives. When considering the presence of Turkish jihadists among the attackers and the historical enmity towards Alawites, it becomes clear that these assaults aim to eradicate Alawism from this region as a whole."
We must prevent genocide
The statement said: "As human beings, we have a duty to oppose and prevent this genocide. As Alawites, we must use all our strength to resist and find a way to stop it. The Yazids want to make us relive Karbala, Dersim, Maras, Çorum, and Madımak once again. Will we allow this? As millions of Alawites, how can we answer to our history and future if we remain silent? Dear friends, we all know that if we fail to stand against and prevent these atrocities, neither our future nor Alawism itself will survive in this region."
We salute the self-defense resistance
The statement ended by underlining that "our Syrian Alawite brothers and sisters have not surrendered or bowed to the attacks of the oppressors and the Yazids, just as they have resisted throughout history. In response to the latest attacks by HTS and its affiliates, they have mounted an organized self-defense resistance, driving the jihadists into a frenzy. While we strongly condemn the assaults by ISIS-linked groups, we also salute and support the self-defense resistance of the Syrian Arab Alawite people—mothers, sisters, and young men and women—who have bravely stood up against these brutal aggression. Today, we must take to the streets to stop this genocide against our Arab Alawite brothers and sisters and to strengthen our concrete support for their self-defense struggle."
