German government: We have no information about Kelly Freygang

The German government said that it has no information, beyond media reports, about Kelly Freygang, killed by a Turkish drone. Özdemir MP said: “The federal government is avoiding confronting its potential responsibility for her death.”

Germany’s Foreign Ministry announced that it does not possess any information beyond media coverage concerning Hamburg-born Kelly Freygang, who was killed by a Turkish drone in Kurdistan. This statement was made in an official response to a written parliamentary inquiry submitted by Cansu Özdemir, foreign policy spokesperson for the Left Party.

According to the German Federal Government, it has no further knowledge about the internationalist YJA Star fighter Kelly Freygang (Tîjda Zagros), who was killed by a Turkish armed drone in the South Kurdistan region, beyond what has been reported in the press.

Last week, Hamburg MP Cansu Özdemir posed the following question to the government: "31-year-old Hamburg-born Kelly Freygang lost her life on April 29, 2025, in an attack by a Turkish drone. It is known that German-made weapons technology or components thereof have been used in Bayraktar-type drones. A report published by Civaka Azad on June 3 also stated that Kelly Freygang was targeted by such a drone. Can the German government definitively say that German-made weapons played no role in Kelly Freygang’s death?"

"No information on the Kelly Freygang case"

In its written reply, the Foreign Ministry said: "The federal government has no indication that it possesses information about the Kelly Freygang case beyond that which has appeared in the mainstream media."

Cansu Özdemir: The government is hiding behind its ignorance

Speaking to ANF, Cansu Özdemir said she will continue to pursue the issue, saying: "Instead of condemning Turkey’s illegal attacks under international law and investigating whether German-exported weapons played a role in Kelly Freygang’s death, the federal government once again hides behind its ignorance. In 2023, Germany exported weapons worth €346.8 million to Turkey. This includes components used in Bayraktar drones. The weapons system responsible for Kelly Freygang’s death is exactly that."
