People in the village of Sütlüce, in Dersim protested the solid waste facility project planned to be built there.

The Red Mountain Environment Platform drew attention to the damage the solid waste facility project would cause to nature should it go ahead.

The solid wast facility is planned to be built in the village of Sütlüce in Dersim against the will of the people. The Red Mountain Environment Platform held a press release in front of Dersim Municipality.

Speaking on behalf of the platform, Yılmaz Çelik said that the solid waste facility project will threaten forests, streams, valleys and residential areas and added that these damages will be irreversible. Noting that more than 50,000 oak and juniper trees are in danger of being destroyed in the region should the project go ahead Çelik said that it will also endanger organic beekeeping in the region. “There are areas where the project can be implemented without cutting a single tree. Organic beekeeping, which is an important source of income for the villagers, cannot be destroyed for 50-60 million liras to come from Europe.”
