SDF dismantles a dangerous ISIS cell in Heseke countryside

Reaffirming their commitment to eliminating the remnants of ISIS cells, SDF stated that they will not tolerate any entity that threatens the security and stability of our areas or seeks to undermine civil peace.

The commando forces of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) conducted yesterday, Feb. 9, a precise security operation aimed at dismantling an ISIS terrorist cell in the town of Markada in the southern countryside of Shaddadi, Heseke.

In a statement about the operation, SDF Press Center said the following:

“Following extensive surveillance and intelligence gathering by our forces, tracking the movements of the terrorist cell, our forces raided and besieged the place where the terrorist cell was hiding. Clashes erupted as the terrorists opened fire on our forces, resulting in one terrorist being eliminated. The emir (leader) of the terrorist cell named Nawas detonated an explosive belt he was wearing, resulting in his immediate death. The operation was successfully completed without any casualties among our forces. A total of two terrorists were eliminated, and five others were captured.

The terrorist cell was responsible for attacks targeting oil tankers and internal security checkpoints in several areas across northern and eastern Syria. Following extensive surveillance and with the support of the international coalition, our forces located the cell’s hideout in the town of Markada, where they were planning large-scale terrorist operations, including an attack on Panorama Prison in Hasakah, which houses ISIS militants.

Our SDF Media Center will release a detailed report at a later date, providing further information about the identities of the cell members, their movements, and their planned terrorist activities.

The following weapons, ammunition, and military equipment were seized during the operation:

AK-47 rifles: 6

AK-47 bullets: 413 bullets

AK-47 magazines: 23

Hand grenades: 7

Military quivers: 5

Smartphones: 5

Our forces reaffirm their commitment to eliminating the remnants of ISIS cells, despite the group’s attempts to exploit the ongoing Turkish occupation attacks in our regions to carry out terrorist activities against our forces, civilians, and vital infrastructure. Our SDF will not tolerate any entity that threatens the security and stability of our areas or seeks to undermine civil peace.”
