158 journalists subjected to rights violations in Kurdistan Region in 2022

The Kurdistan Journalists' Syndicate reported that in 2022, 73 rights violations were perpetrated against 158 journalists, mostly in Hewler (Erbil). 41 journalists were arrested, 20 journalists were blocked and 10 faced defamation.
The Journalists' Syndicate stated that journalists had their equipment seized and broken 7 times, while 3 media offices and channels were closed, 2 media outlets were attacked, 2 journalists were fired, and 3 others were injured.
According to the Journalists' Syndicate, 21 rights violations against journalists were registered in Hewler, 18 in Sulaymaniyah, 16 in Duhok, 10 in Kirkuk, 3 in Halabja, 3 in Germiyan and 2 in Soran.
The Journalists' Syndicate noted that 158 journalists, including 4 women, were subjected to rights violations in 2022.
