DEM Party strongly condemns killing of journalists Nazım Daştan and Cihan Bilgin

The DEM Party strongly condemned the killing of journalists Nazım Daştan and Cihan Bilgin.

The DEM Party Central Executive Board (MYK) issued a written statement in which it said: "The attacks carried out by the AKP government and the gangs under its auspices against Northern and Eastern Syria and the Kurdish people have unfortunately entered a new phase. In the attacks that bombed civilian settlements with armed drones indiscriminately and caused the deaths of many civilians, on Thursday journalists Nazım Daştan and Cihan Bilgin were murdered."

The statement continued: "Journalists who thwarted the black propaganda, and the special and psychological war lies carried out by the troll army under the control of the government, who voiced the truth and told the truth were directly targeted. The killing of Daştan and Bilgin, who reported on the events in the Kobanê region from the field, was the result of the fear and hatred felt towards this journalistic activity. In these dirty attacks, a war is being waged against both the Kurdish people and their gains, and against the disclosure of the truth."

The statement added that "the targeted journalists had been informing the public about developments in the region for many years. Both journalists had been subjected to attacks many times before. These journalists followed the ISIS attacks and the fight against it in 2014 on the Suruç side of the border for days. They were subjected to judicial pressure. At that time, both journalists shared a lot of documented news about Turkey's aid and cooperation with ISIS.

The attacks against journalists are within the scope of crimes committed against humanity and universal law. We condemn the killing of these two journalists who thwarted the government's propaganda with their reports on the events in Qereqazaq and Tishreen regions. We call on all segments of society sensitive to these crimes against humanity to raise their voices. The AKP government and its officials must immediately make a statement on the issue and put an end to these crimes they are committing."
